Friday Faves 2/8/13

These are some of my favorite blog posts from the week. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

I LOVE this DiY shoe makeover! Ribbons and rosettes always get me going. ;)
These heart shapped pretzels are easy as pie.  Add a bit of pink sea salt and you've got the yummiest loviest treat ever!
This method for tying a scarf is so rocking! It looks so much tougher and more intricate than it actually is. Horray for cute and easy!

Easy Crochet Flower Magnets

Spring is my favorite time of the year, and, here in Florida, spring pretty much starts in February. So to celebrate the Florida beginning of this great season, I thought I'd make some pretty (and easy) flower magnets!

Supplies:
Yarn in Your Favorite Colors (I used a DK weight acrylic yarn)
4.25mm Crochet Hook
Magnets (I bought this roll at Hobby Lobby for $2.99)
Hot Glue Gun

Abbreviations:
CH: Chain
SL ST: Slip Stitch
DC: Double Crochet
DC2TOG: Double Crochet 2 Together
DC3TOG: Double Crochet 3 Together

Instructions:
CH 5, join to 5th chain from hook with a SL ST.

Round 1:
CH 2, DC2TOG (counts as 1st DC3TOG) into center, 5 DC3TOG (all into center), SL ST to top of 1st
DC3TOG to join.

Round 2:
(CH 1, 3 DC, CH1, SL ST all into same space as join, SL ST into to top of next DC3TOG), repeat around 6 times.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finish by cutting a 1 inch by 1 inch square magnet from the roll. Use the hot glue to attach this to the back of your flower. Repeat as many times as you'd like for the perfectly spring decorated refrigerator.

Friday Faves: 2/1/13

Hello, February!

Here are some lovely little Valentine's day themed crafts for you to share with your all special sweethearts.

For your family:
These adorable pipe cleaner hearts make the perfect topping for your love's breakfast. This is an especially good idea for those of you (like me!) who just cannot master heart shaped pancakes.

For your friends:

No matter how old I get, I will not stop loving friendship bracelets. And a friendship bracelet with hearts?  Definitely a to do! I know what my coworkers are getting for Valentines day!!

For you:
I'm a big fan of making myself little gifts too and this embroidered heart pin cushion seems to be such a fun project.  Does any one else seem to have more pin cushions than pins? I just love how quick, easy, and practical pin cushions are!

What are some of your favorite DiYs from this week?

How to Crochet a Heart onto a Hair Band

With Valentine's Day coming up, I thought it'd be fun to make a few Valentine's day accessories, including this heart hair band. It was so much fun and easy to make that I wanted to share this pattern with all of you! <3

Supplies:

Hair Elastics
Yarn (I used Bernat Waverly's Worsted Weight in Princess Pink)
Crochet Hook Sized for Yarn (I used G/4.25MM)

Abbreviations:
SS: Slip Stitch
SC: Single Crochet
HDC: Half Double Crochet

Instructions:
Row 1: Inside a Magic Circle, 9 SC

It should look like this so far:

Row 2: SS into 1st SC, 2 HDC into 2nd SC, 1 HDC into same stitch, but this time also put your hook through the center of the hair elastic, 2 more HDC into same stitch

Your hair elastic should now be attached to the heart in one place:

1 SS in each of the next 2 SC, 1 HDC (this is the point of the heart), 1 SS in each of the next 2 SC, 5 HDC in next stitch making sure to grab hair elastic on third HDC

The hair elastic is now connected to the heart in two places:

SS into Magic Circle, then break yarn leaving about a five inch tail.

To finish off, pull the tail from the front of the work to the back through the Magic Circle. Use that and the tail from pulling the Magic Circle closed to tie a final knot around the hair elastic:

Trim ends and you're done! You've now made yourself a hair accessory to really love.

Crochet Bird Hair Clip in Tibetan Red and Princess Pink

:: Free Flat Rate Domestic Shipping! ::

Handmade Crochet Birdie in Tibetan Red and Princess Pink

These flighty birdies have found themselves snugly attached to an alligator hair clip just waiting to fly right into in your shiny hair.

The bird adornment is hand crocheted with love from Tibetan red yarn for the body, princess pink for the heart wing, banana for the beak and black for it's loving eye.

Each bird measures approximately 2 and 1/2 inches wide and is 1 and 1/2 inches tall. Their heart wings are sewn securely to their body and the alligator hair clip on which they rest is a single prong, 1 and 1/2 inch clip that attaches securely and comfortably to your hair. The birds are crocheted out of high quality, acrylic yarn that is machine washable and dryable, perfect for those of use who always seem to have left over spaghetti in our hair :)

All hair clips are made to order. Each order is shipped within two days and ready to gift in beautiful homemade packaging.

I can also make this as a brooch if you prefer your birdies on you shirt (or purse, or shoes), not in your hair. :)

I'm certain you'll be carried away with love for the fantastic little birdies!
